Celeste carefully read the last page of the contract, then placed it back on the table.

Halloween Microfiction: Haunted Heart by R.A. Goli

“Haunted Heart”
by R.A. Goli

The wind rattled the windows and howled through the miniscule gaps where the glass didn’t quite meet the frames. I unfurled my legs and moved to the window. The rain was heavy, it fell straight down and crashed against the pavement. The rolling, dark clouds obscured the stars and there was a distant flash of lightning and a growl of thunder. I let the curtains fall back into place, obscuring my view of the ominous night sky and went back to unpacking boxes.

Halloween Microfiction: The Succubus’ Gift by Kait Muse

“The Succubus” Gift”

“This is definitely not the place.” I flashed my car’s high-beams on the dark cabin.

“Obviously,” Amy said, sitting next to me. I glanced over at her, making sure my eyes didn’t linger too long. Dressed with cardboard wings, horns, and only enough to cover her naughty bits, she looked hot.

Halloween Microfiction: In Remembrance of Me by TammyJo Eckhart

*editor’s note: This is a prequel to last year’s story, Annual Spirits, also by TammyJo Eckhart.

I found Doreen’s plans for our first wedding anniversary two months ago. She’d laid out everything hour by hour. She was always so organized. Yet somehow she forgot the roast and had to run out to get it. My hands started fisting at some point when I read over the list and diagrams until I heard her voice say, “Nicholas Gerard Denison, don’t you dare spoil a perfectly usable piece of paper.”

Halloween Microfiction: Love Brings the Rain by Eric Del Carlo

“Love Brings the Rain”
by Eric Del Carlo

Electrical and torrential: that is the storm I find myself out in. Rain lashes the blacktop, and icy blue fire veins the night sky. Water and electricity, primal elements of the gods. I’ve been praying to them, or to something, some prehistorical entities. The eternal hurt has brought me out here tonight, along this particular stretch of roadway. Because I miss Jeremy. Ten years on, the bitter yearning persists.

Halloween Microfiction: Deathless by Vanessa Sweet

Here I am, three years later: returned to the place of my death.

I unlatch the old wooden gate and slip through the overgrown garden, past the peeling shed that housed fat carpenter bees that one summer, over the stone path thick with dandelions. The air is cool and green, the smell of night and flowers that bloom only in darkness. The moon watches, full but not sated. We have a deal, she and I, and if she could feel— if she could fear, the way I once feared dark garages and empty lots, the way I once feared men with harsh voices and sharp shoes— she might fear that I will change my mind, this time.

Call for Submissions: Halloween Microfictions

Autumn is fast approaching here in New England and that means it’s time for our annual Halloween microfictions!

We are looking for your spooky erotic micro stories to publish on our website as a countdown to Halloween. Stories should be under 1500 words and like with all Circlet Press publications, they must be sex-positive.  All gender pairings are welcome and consent is of the utmost importance.

Please no stories set at Halloween parties. We encourage you to think outside the box. The stories do not have to be set on Halloween. We are simply looking to combine the elements of horror with the elements of erotica. Send a chill down our spine while simultaneously turning us on. Humor is alright too so long as it fits with the theme.

I encourage everyone who considers submitting to read the stories that were chosen last year so you have a better idea of what we like. You can find them here: https://www.circlet.com/tag/halloween-microfiction/

Payment is $5 and the deadline is October 1st.

Send submissions to jwsubs13@gmail.com as either a Word doc or in the body of an email. Please include a short bio. Multiple submissions are okay.

Slots are limited so we encourage you to submit soon!

Halloween Microfiction: The Traveler’s Tale by Vinnie Tesla

“The Traveler’s Tale”
by Vinnie Tesla

What’s the weirdest thing I ever saw in three-space? That’s tricky–there is some freaky shit down there. There was a time a few years ago… You know Elizabeth, right?

Yeah, she’s awesome. So I was just on a walkabout, checking out the sights, you know, and I find this one plane where they’ve got this giant, whitish moon in the sky. Just one, but big, and super-bright. And there were these big, stiff plants everywhere, with branches all over them, so when the wind blew it made this sort of spooky whistling noise.

Halloween Microfiction: Phantom’s Touch by Minna Louche

“Phantom’s Touch”

Zoe struck a match, lighting a candle inside a pumpkin. The jack ‘o lantern’s face lit up with a happy grin, but she was unable to smile back. She looked out at the darkening sky ruefully. She heard trick-or-treaters starting their rounds, and saw other lights coming to life.

Here it was, her favorite night of the year, and she was alone.
