Circlet Press needs interns and writers!

You needn’t be previously published by Circlet Press to submit a ‘writers on writing’ column to this blog. Got an opinion or a thought about the intersection between sex and science fiction? Put it in 500-700 words. If we use it we’ll thank you with free books! Comment here if you’d like to bounce an idea off our editorial staff!

And we need interns! Production grinds to a halt here when we don’t have new folks’ energy to keep us going. If you’re a college student, aspiring writer, or just someone who wants to break into the publishing biz (and are in the Boston area), our internships run 12 weeks, typically involve 6-8 hours per week, and give you hands on experience in every aspect of book publishing! Hit the “interns” button in the nav bar above for more details!

For more detailed info about what we publish in print books and ebooks, check out the full writers guidelines: http://www.circlet.com/?page_id=5

I might have some ideas for a couple of short column blogs. I haven’t published a ton of stuff (as you can see by my website pages), but I think I have a pretty good idea of what constitutes good erotica (and good writing in general), and I’ve been working in the publishing industry for eleven years. I think I can write something that might be useful and/or interesting to erotica writers and readers.

    For certain!

I am an established writer in another field, and have written a few erotic short stories to test the market. These are not fantasy or fetish pieces, but realistic hetero sex – a man and woman meet, passions smolder, signals are exchanged, they get alone in a room, and foreplay escalates into full-blown sex – with some unexpected and unusual twists. The best genre I can use to describe it is classic erotica, similar to what was/is in Penthouse and Playboy, particularly in the 1980s and earlier. The stories range from +/- 3,250 to 5,500 words – packed with pulsating language/action and vivid descriptions. Would you like to review one of these stories? If not, I would value your suggestions on where I should try to place them – including who I should contact.

Please contact me for more details. We can discuss this via e-mail.

Thanks for asking but we are not the right publisher for classic erotica. If there are no vampires, space aliens, magical connections, or futuristic settings, then we’re not the market for it.

Not to sound like a shill, but… have you looked at our book The Erotic Writers Market Guide? It lists over 200 paying markets for erotica of all kinds, especially the “usual” kind. It includes contact info for editors and a brief description of each market’s needs and preferences.

Info on how to order the book is here:
